From Police Officer to Crime Novelist: My Journey

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Travis Dombrowski, and I was raised in Geneva, Ohio. Throughout my life, I've been fascinated by mysteries, investigations, and the complexities of human behavior. Those interests eventually led me to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and pursue a career in law enforcement.

Serving as a police officer gave me a front-row seat to the realities of crime, investigations, and the challenges faced by those sworn to protect their communities. It was a career filled with experiences that were often intense, sometimes heartbreaking, and always unforgettable. In college I was an intern with Youngstown City Police Department's Homicide Division where I received my first experiences with homicide investigation.  While every case had its own story, one thing became clear to me: truth is often stranger than fiction.

After my law enforcement career, I discovered a new way to channel my passion for crime and investigation—writing. Today, I write detective and crime novels that draw upon my real-world experiences. My goal is to create stories that are not only suspenseful and entertaining but also authentic. Readers can expect realistic investigations, believable characters, and mysteries that keep them turning pages late into the night.

Of course, life isn't all crime scenes and plot twists. When I'm not working on my next novel, my greatest joy comes from spending time with my family. I'm incredibly proud of my daughter, Meghan, who has dedicated her career to helping others as a Registered Nurse. And then there's my granddaughter, Reaghan. At two years old, she brings endless energy, laughter, and inspiration into my life. Whether she's exploring the world around her or simply making me smile, she reminds me every day of what truly matters.

Through this blog, I'll share updates on my books, insights into the writing process, stories behind my characters, and occasional reflections from my years in law enforcement.
